This award has our progressive friends, who can usually count on these “fact check” sites to aim at Republicans rather than Democrats, hopping mad. But it’s dead on—-the Dems lied like rugs on this one.

Last April, the House passed a budget that kept Medicare as is for anyone 55 or older, but moved the program toward privatization (with government subsidies) for younger people. Then the whoppers started.

Just four days after the party-line vote, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee released a Web ad that said seniors will have to pay $12,500 more for health care “because Republicans voted to end Medicare.?

A Dem front group produced a video claiming that the evil Republicans wanted to privitize Medicare for everyone. It even showed a Paul Ryan (R-WI) look-alike pushing a little old lady in a wheelchair off a cliff:

The Democrats repeated this lie again and again, and they’re still doing it. Nancy Pelosi recently sent a fundraising letter claiming that Republicans had voted to end Medicare. Politifact has called them on it every time:

PolitiFact debunked the Medicare charge in nine separate fact-checks rated False or Pants on Fire, most often in attacks leveled against Republican House members. Now, PolitiFact has chosen the Democrats’ claim as the 2011 Lie of the Year.

So, will the Democrats stop lying? I doubt it. If their history of fear mongering on Social Security is any guide, they’ll be telling this Medicare whopper until the cows come home (or, at the very least, until November 2012).
