Opponents of ObamaCare have long known that one of its most idiotic provisions calls for a 2.3 percent tax on medical device manufacturers. This provision is not only a sure job killer, it is essentially a tax on innovation, as Paul Hsieh explained nearly two years ago:
One of the many new taxes imposed by ObamaCare is an excise tax on medical device manufacturers … ObamaCare could thus strangle many promising developments in their cradles before they ever reached the marketplace, such as new cancer treatments, handheld diagnostic equipment, nanotechnology, etc.
Well, it would appear that some Dems have finally figured this out:
Sixteen Democratic senators who voted for the Affordable Care Act are asking that one of its fundraising mechanisms, a 2.3 percent tax on medical devices scheduled to take effect January 1, be delayed … the Democratic senators say the levy will cost jobs … and also impair American competitiveness in the medical device field.
There has been a lot of talk since the election among the Dems about rolling back certain features of ObamaCare. Unfortunately, they all involve the mechanisms that were allegedly going to pay for the Presideent’s Rube Goldberg scheme.
What these characters really want is to keep the program while getting rid of the pain Americans are about to feel when the bills come due. Typical Democrat skullduggery. If the GOP has any sense, it will tell the Dems to get rid of the goodies along with the taxes.
